Lotus

At The Lotus Health Foundation, we believe that every woman deserves the right to experience a safe, supported, and empowering birth. We honour birth as a sacred rite of passage — a moment of profound spiritual connection, healing, and transformation. Our mission is to create compassionate spaces where women, men and families, are nurtured physically, emotionally, and spiritually throughout their journey into motherhood. By supporting women to birth safely and with dignity, we aim to cultivate stronger families, healthier communities, and a more compassionate world.

Vision Statement

Our vision is to create a world where every woman, regardless of income or location, has access to safe, compassionate, and culturally respectful birth care. In the Northern Rivers of Australia, we strive to make holistic perinatal support — including doula services, lactation consulting, counselling, and postnatal care — available to all families, especially those facing financial hardship.

The Story of the Lotus

The Lotus Health Foundation was born from lived experience, deep listening, and a quiet knowing that women deserve more care, more choice, and more compassion during life’s most vulnerable and powerful moments.

Its roots lie in the personal journey of its founder, Stephanie Rouillon, whose path into motherhood began early. Becoming a mother at eighteen opened a doorway into the profound realities of womanhood — love, responsibility, courage, and transformation. Alongside the beauty of motherhood came grief, including the heartbreaking loss of a preterm baby. That loss, while devastating, became a turning point: a moment that revealed how deeply women need to be held, supported, and honoured through pregnancy, birth, and beyond.

Through three subsequent joyous births and more than twenty years of motherhood, Stephanie witnessed firsthand the immense impact that respectful, informed, and compassionate care can have on a woman’s experience. She also saw the gaps — where women were unsupported, unheard, or navigating systems that did not honour birth as a sacred rite of passage.

Guided by this lived wisdom, Stephanie pursued formal training in midwifery, natural medicine, doula care, youth work, and community services, while also walking a spiritual path through shamanic midwifery traditions. Over time, a vision began to take shape — one that wove together clinical knowledge, cultural respect, spiritual understanding, and community care.

The Lotus Health Foundation emerged from this vision. Like the lotus flower, which rises through murky waters to bloom, the foundation represents resilience, healing, and transformation. It was created to ensure that every woman — regardless of income, background, or location — has access to safe, empowering, and culturally respectful care.

Beginning in the Northern Rivers of Australia, the foundation focuses on supporting women and families through pregnancy, birth, and the postnatal period, while also offering education for young women, youth programs, sacred women’s circles, and community healing spaces. At its heart is a belief that when women are supported, families strengthen and communities thrive.

The vision of The Lotus Health Foundation extends beyond Australia to rural communities in Indonesia, where the foundation works alongside local midwives and community leaders to support maternal care, education, and women-led solutions that honour local culture and knowledge.

Today, The Lotus Health Foundation stands as a bridge — between tradition and modern care, between communities and services, between grief and healing. It exists to walk hand in hand with women, birth workers, and communities, holding space for birth not only as a medical event, but as a profound moment of transformation capable of healing generations.

This is the story of The Lotus Health Foundation — rooted in experience, guided by compassion, and committed to a future where women are seen,
